Tendency : Sustainable and flexible

At this moment numerous laboratories are making their installations more flexible and are installing new ventilation methods in order to reduce the energy consumption by a dozen per cent. Van Looy Group Lab Seminar of 28 November 2007

On 28 November Van Looy Group organised its seminar for the laboratory sector. This time sustainability and energy savings was the focus in the Poortgebouw of the welcoming Leids University Medical Centre. Three speakers drew attention to a number of important aspects involving this topic.

Energy consumption and reduction - Prof. Terry Wyat

This presentation provided a surprising look on the current environmental issues. Prof. Terry Wyat introduced us to the world of energy-consuming buildings and showed that sustainable energy is only one of the solutions to limit CO2 emissions and certainly does not deserve the highest priority when it comes to energy-savings.

New: Brussels Airport to become a property developer

Brucargo was opened in 1980 and has undergone quite a development. With the Royal Decree of 5 July 2006, Federal Mobility Minister Renaat Landuyt created the option to expropriate land on the Diegem territory (Machelen) for the expansion to the West of the freight area (agriculture). Since, as a result of the move of the DHL hub in 2008, Brussels-National is at risk of losing its prominent position as a freight airport. This new zone, Brucargo West, will help to determine the airport's future.

Johnson&Johnson MD&D wins Supply Chain Award - Project of the Year 2007

According to annual tradition, the member associations VIB, PICS and ABCAL organised their Supply Chain "high mass" on 25 October, the Gala Award Event. The estimated 400 participants were presented with four projects from which they could choose for the public prize. A professional jury, chaired by Fernand Huts of Katoennatie, was able to select the eventual winner, i.e., J&J MD&D (Medical Devices & Diagnostics).

Centralisation with a focus on the individual character of business units

"Early this year Johnson & Johnson officially opened its new distribution centre in Courcelles. The majority of the logistics activities of the Medical Instruments & Diagnostics group are now consolidated there. In itself this is a typical example of the centralisation of logistics, but the group is made up of autonomous companies, which has an impact on the layout and organisation of the distribution centre."

“Sustainability” is achievable through innovative and creative thinking

"Laboratories should have this harmonious label upon delivery. According to the Belgian Van Looy Group, designers of technically advanced buildings such as laboratories, among others, this is far from being the case. By thinking outside the box, a new design was developed for modern laboratories, which are in fact sustainable"
